Structure Test #1. Letters to the MOH, regarding AMA Townhall Oct23’23

Update: This was originally to be done by November 3rd. However, it was learned that the MOH is in Calgary all that week at the AGM. This is thus postponed to November 14th for the delivery. However, this means a due date of November 13th to have letters/signatures into my hands.

  • This is our first structure test. The goal is to get docs to write/sign a letter of near identical content, referring to an event that did not have media coverage. These letters will be handed to the MOH directly (if possible), and it will be pointed out the widespread geographic involvement, as well as the solidarity of content. This will illustrate to the MOH that we are organizing on a grassroots level, we are capable of coordinated effort, over short timeframes, and that our communication is effective. While the letters identify three grievances, they leave any asks to be simply “engaged better with the AMA”. We don’t want the MOH detecting a fissure at this time, nor using it to her advantage. If this structure test looks like it is creating a reasonable volume of letters, I will engage the media to be present for the letter delivery. We will assess the success of this test based on how many clinics submitted letters, how many doctors signed these letters, how many doctors showed an interest in joining because of this test. We will also assess our logistics. Did the message get out to participants in a clear and positive fashion? Were the media successfully engaged? Did the MOH treat the action as communicating serious and worthy concerns? We will also assess our ability to anticipate all elements of execution and follow through (for instance, are we shortsighted in not considering a need for people to watch social media in order to diffuse hostilities and promote public support).

  • See “internal documents” above for two examples of clinic letters.
